I have found a small slice of heaven...

Today I had lunch with my friend Shirley at the Flushing Mall... in the food court, there's a place that makes cheap steaks, and it was delicious! For 7 bucks, I definately can't complain. :)

But even better was this store in the mall that she showed me.... 40 minute full-body mechanical massages for only 3 bucks! Woo hoo! I know where I'm going to be spending some of my off-training time now!

Life's been a bit stressful lately... but things like this make it so worthwhile. Thanks Shirley!

More about what I do...

For those new readers that don't know me very well yet from my previous Xanga entries, I study traditional Chinese martial arts with Master Gao Xian at Gao's Kung Fu Academy in New York. It's something I've been doing for more than 3 years now, and I'm still enjoying it as much as when I first started. The training is pretty intense at times, and I average about 5 sessions a week. Gao's style, at least from what I can surmise from the 25 forms I've learned so far, is a mixture of various northern chinese styles (Tongbeiquan, Fanziquan, Piguaquan, Xingyiquan, Bajiquan, and a few others) each with slight modifications under an larger Longfist/Tongbei/Pigua philosophy. It's an excellent curriculum of motion, and it's done wonders for my overall health, flexibility, and strength... paying dividends not just internally, but externally as well, as the motions and philosophies carry over somewhat to my main job as conductor, flute performer/teacher.

Of course, I sometimes forget that I'm 30, and no longer 18... I try a bit too hard at times, and I sideline myself with injuries on occasion. Lately, it's a strained hip flexor (diagnosis mine... heh heh)that's probably going to have me watching a few classes rather than doing them. Shouldn't be too long though... I heal relatively quickly, or so I like to imagine. :)

Well, I guess it's back to messing around with the weights and some flute practicing. :)
